Odisha’s Director General of Police, Y.B. Khurania, kicked off a state-level multi-agency coastal security seminar aimed at enhancing Odisha’s coastal security framework. The workshop, attended by 18 agencies including the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, focused on technical aspects and challenges in coastal security.
Khurania emphasized the crucial role of coastal security in the nation’s internal security system, highlighting its connection to economic development, maritime trade, and public safety. He underscored the significance of securing Odisha’s 574.7-km coastline and major ports like Paradip, Dhamra, and Gopalpur for the state’s economic growth.
The DGP outlined Odisha’s efforts in coastal security, mentioning the deployment of over 700 police personnel across 18 Marine Police Stations. The state government allocated approximately Rs 150–200 crore in the past two years to bolster coastal security infrastructure, including adding Fast Interceptor Boats, drones, trawlers, and CCTV surveillance systems.
To modernize coastal security further, plans are underway to introduce more Fast Interceptor Boats, trawlers, mini control centers, CCTV systems at fishing harbors, modular jetties, and anti-drone systems. Special Police Officers have been recruited, and a Command and Control Centre in Bhubaneswar will integrate data from various surveillance platforms for enhanced monitoring.
