Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has appointed IPS officer Ananya Awasthi as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor, marking her the first woman officer to hold this position. The formal induction ceremony took place at Lok Bhavan, where Governor Kambhampati welcomed Awasthi to her new role as the Police ADC, with senior officials in attendance.
Before this assignment, Awasthi served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Urban Police District, Cuttack. Her appointment as the first female ADC to the Governor of Odisha signifies a significant advancement for women in public service. Awasthi, a 2022-batch IPS officer, succeeds IPS officer Kuldeep Meena, who has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police of Boudh district in a recent state government reshuffle.
The Governor of Odisha is supported by two Aides-de-Camp, one from the Indian Navy and the other from the Odisha Police. While Ananya Awasthi takes on the role of Police ADC, Lieutenant Harshit Deo of the Indian Navy remains the Naval ADC to the Governor. Aides-de-Camp play a crucial part in assisting the Governor during official events, ceremonies, and other protocol-related duties.
Awasthi’s appointment as the first woman ADC to the Governor of Odisha is seen as a significant milestone in the state’s public service domain. It highlights the growing presence of women in leadership and ceremonial roles within the police and administrative sectors. This move underscores the state’s dedication to fostering gender inclusivity and providing women with opportunities to excel in positions of high responsibility, trust, discipline, and honor.
