Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati urged the youth of the state to consider fisheries and animal husbandry as modern, technology-driven, and profitable sectors. He emphasized the potential for innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership in these fields. The Governor made these remarks at the closing ceremony of the State-level Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Fair, Matsya-Pranee Samavesh Odisha-2026, held at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.

Fisheries and animal husbandry, according to the Governor, have transformed into dynamic sectors offering various opportunities beyond traditional practices. These sectors now encompass hatcheries, dairy units, poultry farms, feed production, processing units, pet care services, and fisheries logistics. Dr. Kambhampati highlighted the significance of skill development and innovation in enabling young individuals to establish successful enterprises and create a positive impact.

Governor Kambhampati underscored the historical role of fisheries and allied activities in ensuring food security, supporting rural livelihoods, and bolstering the economy over centuries. He emphasized that the growth of these sectors is crucial for Odisha’s overall development and aligns with the state’s vision of Viksit Odisha, contributing to the national goal of Viksit Bharat. The Governor praised both the State and Central governments for their initiatives, such as Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, Mukhyamantri Matsyajibi Kalyan Yojana, Prani Sampad Samrudhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, and Rashtriya Gokul Mission, which have enhanced incomes and encouraged scientific practices.

Odisha, with its extensive coastline, abundant water resources, and diligent farmers, holds significant potential in fisheries and animal husbandry, as per the Governor. He highlighted the importance of developing processing units, cold storage facilities, and enhanced marketing infrastructure to create employment opportunities and position Odisha as a key hub for animal and fish products. Governor Kambhampati expressed confidence in the collective efforts aimed at building a resilient, prosperous, and inclusive Odisha.
