The Odisha Commissionerate Police apprehended a 22-year-old individual for sharing objectionable reels containing digitally altered explicit images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on his social media profile. The accused, identified as Biswajit Sahu from Nua Sahi in Cuttack district, was taken into custody following allegations of disseminating offensive content.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime and Economic Offences) Suchismita Das stated that the trend of misusing artificial intelligence and digital tools to create inappropriate content about state and national leaders on social media is concerning. The arrest of Sahu was made after the Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station detected objectionable material on his Instagram account “m.r_biswa__” during routine monitoring on July 4.

Investigations revealed that Sahu had shared multiple reel videos on his account, using abusive language and digitally manipulated images to defame the Chief Minister. The accused sourced photos of Chief Minister Majhi and Prime Minister Modi from the internet, altered them, and incorporated them into his social media posts to attract attention.

The accused also made derogatory remarks and shared defamatory content, aiming to tarnish the Chief Minister’s reputation digitally and mislead the public, particularly the youth. The dissemination of such negative and obscene content through social media was intended to harm the Chief Minister’s image and spread misinformation.

In response to a social media patrolling report, a case (101/26) was registered, leading to the arrest of the accused on Sunday. The police confiscated an iPhone used for managing the Instagram account, along with screenshots and copies of the objectionable posts, reels, and digital evidence collected during the inquiry.

A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party has also lodged a separate case at the Bhubaneswar Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station against unidentified individuals for sharing inappropriate social media posts targeting the Odisha Chief Minister.
