Ahead of the world-renowned Puri Ratha Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra set for July 16, Odisha Police conducted a high-level coordination meeting to ensure a secure and peaceful festival. The security plan involves Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Indian Coast Guard, and other agencies to maintain safety during the sacred event. A comprehensive security blueprint, including land, sea, and air surveillance, has been prepared to prevent any security breaches.
The Director General of Police (DGP) chaired the meeting in Cuttack, reviewing deployment strategies for various security forces and emphasizing close coordination among agencies. Special measures for crowd management, traffic control, emergency response, and inter-agency cooperation were highlighted during the discussions. Joint maritime patrolling by multiple security units, including the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, will be conducted to counter potential threats.
The security arrangements also involve the deployment of anti-drone systems, surveillance drones, and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to address any aerial risks. Additionally, K-9 squads, NSG-trained personnel, and Special Tactical Unit (STU) teams will be stationed to prevent stampedes and ensure the safety of devotees. Strict actions against criminal activities like pickpocketing and theft have been directed, with a focus on surveillance and preventive measures at key locations.
Detailed discussions were held on security vehicle deployment, preventing stampedes, ensuring proper accommodation for police personnel, and maintaining order during the chariot procession near the Jagannath Temple. Special drives against habitual offenders, intensive verification checks at various locations, and crime control measures were also emphasized to enhance safety and security.
