Odisha Police introduced the e-Zero FIR System to combat cyber financial fraud cases effectively. The initiative, inaugurated by Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, aims to enhance the state’s response to such crimes. This system ensures swift case registration, immediate police action, and a higher chance of preventing financial losses in cyber fraud incidents.
The State Crime Records Bureau has integrated the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930 with Odisha’s Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). This integration allows for automatic generation of e-Zero FIR requests for eligible cyber financial fraud complaints, regardless of jurisdiction. Complaints involving cyber financial frauds of Rs 10 lakh and above reported through the helpline will trigger an e-Zero FIR request in CCTNS and be directed to the Cyber Police Station, Crime Branch, Odisha.
The e-Zero FIR System streamlines the process by eliminating duplicate data entry, ensuring faster case registration, and promoting seamless information sharing among law enforcement agencies. It offers complainants the ability to track the status of their complaints efficiently. Director General of Police Khurania emphasized the commitment of Odisha Police to leverage technology for a robust cybercrime response and citizen-friendly policing. He encouraged citizens to report cyber financial frauds promptly to facilitate police action and increase the chances of recovering defrauded money.
