Odisha’s Director General of Police, Y.B. Khurania, revealed that coordinated security operations in the state have resulted in 77 Maoists surrendering and 27 ultras being neutralized over the past year. Khurania emphasized the importance of the remaining Maoist members laying down their arms to avoid confrontation with the forces.
Khurania highlighted the success achieved in combating the Maoist threat in 2025 and early 2026 through joint efforts of security forces, including Central Armed Police Forces like the BSF and CRPF, and various units of the Odisha Police. Notably, 23 active Maoist cadres from Odisha surrendered in Chhattisgarh, while 27 Maoists were neutralized in different operations, including the elimination of 17 cadres near the Nuapada-Gariaband border in January 2025.
According to the latest assessment, the number of active Maoists in Odisha has reduced to single digits. However, a small group of cadres still operates in the Kandhamal–Rayagada–Kalahandi forests, prompting continuous combing operations by security forces to capture them. Khurania reiterated his call for the remaining Maoists to surrender and take advantage of the state government’s new rehabilitation and surrender policy.
