Odisha Police is set to organize a five-day ‘Nyaya Sanhita Exhibition’ in Bhubaneswar to educate the public about India’s updated criminal justice system. The event will take place at the Exhibition Ground in Unit-III of Bhubaneswar from March 6 to March 10.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attending as the chief guest. Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania shared that the event aims to showcase the implementation of three new criminal laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

These laws, effective from July 1, 2024, replace colonial-era statutes governing India’s criminal justice system. The exhibition, open to the public from March 7 to March 10, will offer insights into the modernized legal framework and various aspects of the justice delivery system.

Attendees can learn about emergency response services like the 112 helpline, police procedures, forensic science laboratories, courts, and prisons. The exhibition aims to highlight the shift in India’s criminal justice system towards a more contemporary and justice-oriented approach, focusing on victim rights, timely investigations, and trials.

Through interactive stalls approved by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, visitors can explore the judicial process from crime scenes to the High Court. Technological advancements in policing, such as e-Sakshya for digital evidence management and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), will also be showcased.

Officials will explain the functioning of emergency response services, police stations, hospital coordination mechanisms, forensic laboratories, public prosecution, district courts, prisons, and High Court procedures. The exhibition will also emphasize police modernization, empowerment, and efforts to prevent crimes against women.

DGP Khurania reiterated Odisha Police’s commitment to raising awareness about the evolving criminal justice system in India. By integrating scientific investigation, modern technology, and citizen participation, the police aim to ensure prompt and equitable justice for victims.
