As per Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha witnessed 54 communal riots between June 2024 and February 2026. Balasore district had the highest number of cases, with 24 incidents reported. Khordha reported 16 cases, while Koraput, Malkangiri, and Bhadrak districts recorded 8, 4, and 2 incidents, respectively.
Additionally, seven lynch deaths were reported in the state during the same period. Rayagada district had three cases related to witch-hunting suspicions. Dhenkanal had two cases, and Balasore and Deogarh districts each reported one case of mob lynching.
Chief Minister Majhi highlighted efforts to maintain communal harmony, including the formation of peace committees at police stations. The government is actively working to enhance coordination among communities and prevent local tensions. Proactive measures are being taken by the administration to uphold peace and goodwill among different groups.
Authorities are closely monitoring intelligence inputs to prevent any disturbances to peace. Strict actions are being taken against lawbreakers, with arrests and legal proceedings being initiated as necessary. Awareness programs are being conducted to discourage mob violence and attacks based on suspicions like witchcraft.
