The Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) Chairperson, Sovana Mohanty, announced that a special team will investigate the mob lynching of a Government Railway Police Constable in Balianta. The team, led by Mohanty, visited the crime scene and the girls’ residences to gather information about the incident. Mohanty assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible as per the Chief Minister’s instructions.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and Mohanty plans to record statements from the victim girls. The victim who filed the FIR recounted the events, alleging that she and her friend were attacked by two youths on a motorcycle. She described how they were assaulted and how local people intervened to rescue them from the situation.

The victim girl detailed the harrowing experience, stating that one of the youths tried to take her to their room after the collision. Fortunately, timely help from locals prevented a more tragic outcome. The Director General of Police, Y.B. Khurania, also visited the crime scene to gather information about the incident and the subsequent events.

The incident occurred when the deceased Constable and his friend encountered the girls on a scooter, leading to a confrontation. Allegations suggest that the Constable attempted sexual assault, prompting villagers to intervene. The police rescued the duo and took them to the hospital, where the Constable was pronounced dead.
