Oman and Iran have agreed to continue technical and political discussions regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The talks, held in Muscat, focused on ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation through the strait in light of recent events. Both sides aim to reach necessary understandings in line with international law through ongoing discussions at various levels.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced that Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi would visit Oman for consultations on the Strait of Hormuz. These discussions come amidst heightened tensions following recent exchanges of attacks between the United States and Iran, particularly concerning alleged Iranian strikes on commercial vessels passing through the strait.
In June, Iran and Oman agreed to continue their discussions through a joint working group between their foreign ministries. The goal is to establish an understanding for the future management of navigation and related maritime services in the strategic waterway. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington had agreed to maintain talks with Iran, despite declaring the end of the ceasefire between the two countries following increased military actions.
