Abdullah stressed the importance of adapting to unpredictable snowfall trends and the implementation of artificial snow systems to sustain winter sports.
Acknowledging the concerns surrounding artificial snow projects, Abdullah emphasized their importance in preserving tourism opportunities and supporting the livelihoods of local stakeholders dependent on winter tourism. He assured that the government is dedicated to developing Gulmarg as an international skiing hub and ensuring continuous sporting events despite climate challenges. The Chief Minister expressed support for athletes and sports infrastructure to cultivate more international-level competitors from Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah commended skier Arif Khan for his achievements and encouraged more athletes to emerge from the games, emphasizing the significance of sports participation beyond winning medals. He highlighted the economic benefits of investing in winter sports and tourism, aiming to position Gulmarg among the top global skiing destinations while ensuring economic stability for local communities. The Khelo India Winter Games have attracted 400 athletes from 30 states and Union Territories, with a focus on ski mountaineering, Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, and snowboarding, particularly in alpine skiing.
