The tension between Omar Abdullah and the BJP escalated as the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister reacted to the BJP’s defamation notice on Monday. Abdullah accused the BJP of trying to destabilize the National Conference government by allegedly offering an MLA money and a ministerial position in exchange for switching allegiance. In response, the BJP issued a Rs 100 crore defamation notice, demanding an apology and retraction from Abdullah.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responded to the legal notice on Monday, sarcastically calling it a ‘love letter.’ He announced that the National Conference would take legal action against senior BJP leaders for what he termed as baseless and defamatory allegations. Abdullah stated that he had not received any formal summons but only an electronic copy of the notice through a lawyer.
Abdullah expressed his view that receiving the legal notice was an honor, as he considered himself a political force that the BJP could not ignore. He criticized the BJP for choosing legal battles over political responses and accused them of repeatedly making false and slanderous allegations against the National Conference and its leadership. Abdullah announced that the National Conference would issue legal notices to specific BJP leaders and pursue the matter through legal channels.
