One person has died and three others are in critical condition after a firecracker factory explosion in Champahati, South 24 Parganas district. Gouhari Ganguly, aged around 70, succumbed to severe burns at MR Bangur Hospital. The remaining injured individuals, Gour Gangopadhyay, Kishan Mandal, and Rahul Mandal, are in critical condition.
According to Kolkata Police, the explosion investigation is ongoing, and the factory owner is currently missing. The incident, which occurred in Haral village, resulted in a loud explosion that caused significant damage to the factory. The Fire Department responded promptly to the scene to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the Additional Superintendent of Police of Baruipur Police District, Rupantar Sengupta. Local reports indicate that the explosion occurred during firecracker manufacturing, leading to a destructive impact on the factory premises and nearby surroundings. The injured were initially treated at Baruipur Super Speciality Hospital before being transferred to MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata.
Locals mentioned that the explosion took place at the residence of firecracker trader Pintu Mondal, resulting in the destruction of his property. Notably, a similar explosion had previously occurred in the same area about a year ago.
