The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is prepared to confront the Odisha state government on various critical issues in the upcoming Budget session of the Odisha Assembly. BJD President Naveen Patnaik urged party MLAs to take a strong stance against the government, focusing on concerns such as farmers’ distress, mining cess, corruption, and pollution.
Patnaik criticized the government for neglecting farmers while engaging in mere slogans and photo opportunities. He emphasized the BJD’s support for farmers and its opposition to the BJP-led government’s policies that are perceived as anti-farmer. Farmers in the state are reportedly discontented with the government’s approach towards them.
Highlighting issues like illegal deductions in Mandis and delays in payments, Patnaik called for a strategic approach to hold the government accountable in the Assembly. He stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy involving parliamentary tools to ensure the government addresses its shortcomings and listens to the concerns of farmers.
During the Budget session, BJD MLAs are instructed to raise critical issues such as the deteriorating law-and-order situation, underutilization of budget allocations, and unresolved disputes related to the Mahanadi river water.
