The opposition Biju Janata (BJD) organized a large protest by farmers in Bhubaneswar, criticizing the state government’s alleged anti-farmer policies and the worsening law-and-order situation. BJD workers and leaders gathered at Master Canteen Square before marching to Lower PMG for a massive meeting. BJD president Naveen Patnaik denounced the BJP-led government, expressing concerns about irregularities in mandis and the deteriorating law and order.
Patnaik accused the government of not living up to its “Jai Kisan” slogan, alleging neglect towards farmers. He emphasized the need for concrete action over mere rhetoric, pointing out unfulfilled promises made during elections. Patnaik highlighted the pro-farmer initiatives of the previous BJD government, such as a separate agriculture budget and the KALIA scheme for farmer welfare.
The BJD leader criticized delays in fertilizer distribution, improper paddy procurement, and rising illegal deductions in paddy weight. He called for prompt payments to farmers and proposed measures like a special squad to curb malpractices. Patnaik also raised concerns about the law-and-order situation, citing insecurity among citizens and lack of employment opportunities for youth.
