Opposition leaders in Maharashtra criticized the state’s ruling Mahayuti coalition following the death of a 60-year-old man who fell into an open manhole during rainfall in Mumbai. Shiv Sena-UBT leader Kishori Pednekar expressed disappointment, highlighting the lack of necessary precautions taken at the site. Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar emphasized the need for accountability, calling for action against the responsible officers.
The incident was condemned as a case of negligence by various leaders, with concerns raised over the safety measures in place during ongoing construction work. Congress MLA Nana Patole accused the government of shirking responsibility and failing to address previous safety lapses. The tragic incident comes after the recent death of an 11-year-old student in a separate accident involving a fallen tree in Mumbai.
NCP MP Sunil Tatkare stressed the importance of preventing such accidents in the future, urging collective efforts towards ensuring public safety. BJP leader Amit Satam highlighted the ongoing investigation into the incident, emphasizing the critical need for proper safety measures, especially concerning open manholes. Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora criticized the historical mismanagement of funds in the BMC but acknowledged recent efforts by the state government to enhance accountability.
