Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, claimed that land mafias supported by the ruling Trinamool Congress have filled a large pond in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas district. Adhikari shared a video alleging the illegal filling of protected East Kolkata Wetlands, comparing it to the situation in Anandapur where a recent fire incident claimed 27 lives.
He criticized the authorities for allowing unauthorized warehouses to be established without proper permissions, similar to the situation in Anandapur. Adhikari highlighted the ongoing filling of a public pond in Bhangar, accusing TMC-backed land mafias of operating unchecked, destroying a crucial water resource.
Adhikari emphasized that this incident is part of a pattern where illegal activities have led to tragedies like the Anandapur fire. He condemned the state government for failing to prevent such activities over the years, leading to environmental degradation and endangering public safety.
