Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan heavily criticized the Pinarayi Vijayan government’s policy address, labeling it as a document filled with untrue statements and half-truths, revealing the administration’s failures and severe financial troubles.
During the 112-minute address by Governor Rajendra V. Arlekar, Satheesan stated that the policy document essentially acknowledged a financial breakdown, highlighting discrepancies in the claimed Rs 53,000 crore due from the Centre, which were omitted from the address and court submissions.
Satheesan also questioned the government’s commitment to secular and democratic values, pointing out controversial statements made by State Minister of Fisheries Saji Cherian, which he deemed contradictory to the government’s stance.
The Opposition leader criticized the government’s assertion of eradicating extreme poverty, calling it unfair to the impoverished, as media reports post-announcement highlighted the struggles of those lacking basic necessities like food and shelter.
Highlighting issues in healthcare, Satheesan described the sector as being in critical condition, citing a surge in infectious diseases and significant arrears under the Karunya health scheme, initiated during the Oommen Chandy administration.
