Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, an Opposition leader in Pakistan’s Senate, has voiced strong criticism against Pakistan’s choice to participate in US President Donald Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’. Abbas labeled the decision as “morally incorrect and indefensible” on both ethical and policy grounds. He highlighted concerns about the initiative’s external management and its potential to undermine Palestinian self-governance.
Abbas further expressed apprehension over the expansion of the initiative beyond its initial scope, emphasizing the lack of clear UN oversight and the risk of marginalizing existing multilateral systems. Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) Vice Chairman Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar also condemned Pakistan’s involvement in the board, citing a lack of public debate or parliamentary consultation.
Moreover, Pakistan’s former Ambassador to the US, the UK, and the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, criticized the decision to join the Trump Board of Peace, deeming it unwise for various reasons. Lodhi highlighted concerns about Trump’s unilateral actions and the broad mandate of the board, cautioning against aligning with such initiatives. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier announced its decision to join the Board of Peace to support the Gaza Peace Plan’s implementation under the UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
