Opposition leaders have backed Congress MP K.C. Venugopal’s request for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into alleged financial irregularities at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple. Venugopal highlighted the misuse of donations meant for the temple, calling for accountability.

Congress MP Tariq Anwar expressed solidarity with Venugopal, emphasizing that the demand for a transparent probe reflects the party’s stance. He criticized the current Special Investigation Team (SIT) setup, suggesting it was designed to shield influential figures.

Questioning the credibility of the SIT, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit raised concerns about the appointment process and lack of transparency in managing temple donations. He called for accountability from those responsible for overseeing the temple’s finances.

RJD MP Manoj Jha echoed doubts about the SIT’s impartiality, expressing concerns that the investigation may protect powerful individuals while targeting smaller players. He urged Prime Minister Modi to intervene and ensure a fair inquiry into the matter.

In response, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma accused the Opposition of undermining Hindu temples and discouraging devotees from contributing. Sharma alleged that the Opposition’s actions aimed to hinder religious tourism and impede Uttar Pradesh’s progress.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain emphasized that decisions on investigations are within the court’s jurisdiction, not the Prime Minister’s purview. Jain criticized the politicization of the issue, urging a focus on identifying and holding accountable those responsible for the financial discrepancies.
