Opposition parties in Telangana, including Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and BJP, have labeled the suicide of a Road Transport Corporation (RTC) driver as a state government-led murder. The driver, Shankar Goud, tragically set himself on fire during an ongoing strike by RTC employees over unresolved issues. Goud passed away while receiving treatment at Apollo DRDO Hospital in Hyderabad.
BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao asserted that the incident was not a suicide but a deliberate act by the government. He criticized CM Revanth Reddy’s alleged mistreatment of RTC workers, emphasizing that Goud’s sacrifice aimed at defending the rights of his colleagues. Rao demanded justice for Goud’s family, including a substantial compensation and a government job.
Expressing solidarity with the RTC workers, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar also condemned Goud’s self-immolation, attributing it to government negligence. He urged the employees not to resort to extreme measures and highlighted their legitimate demands for manifesto implementation. State BJP president Ramchander Rao further supported the workers’ protest against the government.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage and grief across Telangana, with political leaders and unions calling for accountability and justice in the face of the ongoing RTC crisis.
