Opposition parties in Tripura, including the CPI(M) and Congress, have called for a thorough investigation into the death of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Rahul Kishore Roy in North Tripura district. Roy, who was found dead in his residence on May 5, was the President of BJP Yuva Morcha Dharmanagar Mandal and an elected councillor. While police suspect suicide, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury emphasized the need for an impartial inquiry to uncover the circumstances surrounding Roy’s death and ensure accountability. He urged the government to support Roy’s pregnant wife both morally and financially. Meanwhile, North Tripura District Congress President Digbijoy Chakraborty alleged that Roy fell victim to internal BJP conflicts, leading to his tragic demise.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, also in charge of the Home Department, promised a fair investigation into the matter. Expressing condolences, he assured a thorough probe into the allegations raised by Roy’s wife. The incident occurred shortly after a BJP candidate’s victory in a by-election, triggering unrest and demands for justice in Dharmanagar.
The death of Roy has sparked political and social tensions in the region, with protests erupting and roads being blocked by residents seeking justice. Roy’s wife accused a group associated with the ruling party of being involved in the incident and claimed they had assaulted her family the day before. While the exact cause of death remains uncertain, authorities are investigating all leads to uncover the truth behind the tragedy.
