Proceedings in both Houses of Parliament faced disruption for the second consecutive day of the Monsoon Session due to Opposition protests. Issues raised included the alleged NEET paper leak, police actions against students in the national capital, and the alleged theft of donations for the Ram Temple. The disruptions led to multiple adjournments in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, preventing normal business from being conducted.
In the Lok Sabha, Opposition members started raising slogans during the Question Hour, demanding immediate discussions on alleged examination irregularities and police crackdowns on protesting students. Despite assurances from Speaker Om Birla that concerns would be addressed within parliamentary rules, protests persisted, leading to multiple adjournments throughout the day. Ministers, however, managed to table official parliamentary documents amidst the disruptions.
Similar scenes unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, where the House was adjourned shortly after convening due to protests. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge’s attempt to discuss police actions against students was met with counter-slogans from the ruling party, prompting adjournments for the day. Opposition MPs, led by Rahul Gandhi, met with Speaker Om Birla to demand a detailed discussion on alleged police brutality against students, emphasizing the need for accountability over the examination crisis.
Before the day’s proceedings, leaders of the INDIA bloc gathered to strategize in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. The meeting, attended by senior leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh, aimed to address issues affecting the country’s youth. With both Houses repeatedly adjourned amid ongoing protests, legislative business remained stalled, underscoring the deep political confrontation between the Opposition and the government during the Monsoon Session.
