More than 1.70 lakh marriages have been conducted in Madhya Pradesh under the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah/Nikah Scheme between December 2023 and April 2026. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav revealed that nearly Rs 1,000 crore has been disbursed as financial aid so far. The scheme aims to alleviate the financial burden on families, particularly those from economically weaker sections.
Addressing a virtual mass marriage ceremony from his official residence, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized the importance of ensuring that families do not face financial strain when marrying off their children. He highlighted the scheme’s role in promoting social change through the collaboration of society and the government. Mass marriage ceremonies, according to Yadav, serve as a significant form of social service by reducing unnecessary expenses and fostering collective responsibility.
Yadav underscored the significance of mass marriages in promoting dignity, simplicity, and unity among families from diverse backgrounds. He advocated against extravagant weddings and encouraged affluent sections of society to support mass marriage initiatives. The Chief Minister shared his personal commitment by revealing that he had organized his son’s marriage through a mass ceremony.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of educating daughters alongside marriage, considering it a fundamental parental duty. The Kanya Vivah/Nikah Scheme provides financial assistance to eligible families for girls’ marriages, ensuring transparency through direct benefit transfers. The scheme, which covers various communities irrespective of religion, aims to prevent families from falling into debt due to high wedding costs. Yadav assured that the scheme will expand its reach, focusing on remote and tribal areas to include all eligible families.
