Delhi and nearby areas experienced cloudy weather with temperatures around 19 degrees Celsius following intense weather activity. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of possible disruptions due to rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Similar weather conditions are expected to persist until Friday.
On Wednesday, Delhi faced severe weather conditions including dust storms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds, leading to disruptions in normal life. The Indira Gandhi International Airport diverted 16 flights due to adverse weather. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors and secure loose objects during the storm to prevent safety risks.
Wind speeds peaked in various parts of Delhi, with significant gusts recorded at monitoring stations. Pragati Maidan, Pusa, and Palam reported high wind speeds, while other areas like Lodhi Road and Pitampura also experienced strong winds. Thunderstorms are forecasted in West Bengal, with hailstorms expected in specific districts, and southern India may see light rainfall and thunderstorms in isolated places.
Despite the rainfall, Delhi’s air quality index remained in the ‘moderate’ category, with varying pollution levels recorded at key monitoring stations. Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Bawana, Chandni Chowk, Dwarka Sector-8, and Wazirpur showed persistent pollution concerns.
