Padma Shri awardee and progressive farmer Ramsaran Verma expressed joy at Prime Minister Narendra Modi being honored with the FAO’s ‘Agricola Medal’ for 2026. Verma emphasized that this recognition is a testament to India’s agricultural prowess and the government’s farmer-centric policies. The award was presented by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu in acknowledgment of PM Modi’s efforts in enhancing farmers’ welfare, food security, and agricultural productivity.
Verma commended the Modi administration for steering Indian agriculture towards innovation, sustainability, and farmer welfare. He highlighted the significant impact of government welfare schemes benefiting millions of citizens, including free foodgrain distribution to around 80 crore people and direct financial aid to over 11 crore farmers through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative. Additionally, Verma praised India’s global initiatives promoting millets, digital agriculture, and natural farming practices, which have elevated the country’s agricultural standing internationally.
The farmer from Barabanki underscored that India’s agricultural policies now prioritize farmers and innovation, leading to global appreciation for the country’s farming practices and PM Modi’s visionary leadership. Verma noted FAO’s recognition of India’s efforts in promoting natural and regenerative farming methods, as well as the country’s role in popularizing nutrient-rich millets worldwide. He emphasized that the FAO’s acknowledgment not only honors PM Modi but also recognizes the collective contributions of India’s farming community, scientists, and policymakers in fostering agricultural self-reliance and global respect.
