Several wanted terrorists from Pakistan, including Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin and Al-Badr supremo Bakht Zameen Khan, were present at the funeral of Hamza Burhan, the mastermind behind the Pulwama attack, in Islamabad. Burhan, also known as Arjumand Gulzar Dar, was buried in Islamabad after being shot by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). The funeral gathering also saw the presence of officials associated with Pakistan’s ISI, as per social media reports.
The visuals from the funeral displayed heavily armed individuals carrying AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons, emphasizing the tight security during the burial ceremony. Social media videos indicated the participation of armed cadres linked to banned terror groups. Burhan, who was involved in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack that claimed over 40 CRPF personnel’s lives, was designated a terrorist by India’s Union Home Ministry in 2022 for his role in various terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Living covertly in PoK as a teacher, Burhan was serving as the principal of a private college in Muzaffarabad, located around 135 kilometers from Islamabad. He was attacked by unknown gunmen when he left the college premises, sustaining multiple head injuries. This incident follows a pattern where Pakistani military officers, civil bureaucrats, and prominent terror leaders attended funerals of militants killed during India’s ‘Operation Sindoor.’
In April 2025, a violent incident in Pahalgam, J&K, orchestrated by Pakistan-backed terrorists resulted in 26 deaths. This attack, aimed at inciting communal violence, marked a shift towards internal destabilization. In response, India initiated ‘Operation Sindoor’ to dismantle the terror infrastructure behind the assault. Visual evidence revealed state-backed honors for slain terrorists from groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), with coffins draped in the Pakistani flag and receiving military-style honors in cities such as Muridke, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffarabad.
