Pakistan is contemplating reinstating Babar Azam as the T20I captain, as per reports from the Daily Ausaf. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is evaluating a leadership change in the shortest format due to recent team performances. Babar, who recently regained Pakistan’s Test captaincy, may lead the T20I side if the decision is finalized.
The move follows Babar’s successful tenure as Pakistan’s captain across all formats. He led the team to the T20 World Cup semifinals in 2021 and was runner-up in the 2022 edition. Babar also had one of the best winning percentages among Pakistan’s T20I captains previously.
While Salman Ali Agha is the current skipper, he is expected to remain in Pakistan’s plans even if Babar takes over the captaincy. The PCB values Agha’s role within the squad, but Babar’s experience, leadership skills, and familiarity with captaincy demands make him a strong candidate for the role.
An official announcement regarding the captaincy change is pending the PCB’s internal discussions and squad finalization for Pakistan’s upcoming T20I series. The board has not commented publicly on the speculation until the squad is confirmed.
