The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed backing for Bangladesh’s refusal to play their matches in India during the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to decide on Bangladesh’s participation in the tournament on Wednesday. The PCB conveyed its support to the ICC, aligning with Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) concerns over political tensions between India and Bangladesh.
The ICC and BCB recently met to discuss the matter, with both sides maintaining their positions. While the ICC has emphasized sticking to the original schedule, the BCB has reiterated its inability to send the team to India. Pakistan had previously threatened to withdraw from the T20 World Cup if Bangladesh’s request to relocate matches was not accommodated. Consequently, the PCB has instructed the team to ease preparations for the event.
In a proposed solution, Bangladesh suggested swapping places with Ireland in Group B, a move opposed by the ICC, assuring Ireland that no changes will be made. The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is scheduled to commence on February 7. Despite this, the BCB remains firm on relocating its league matches to Sri Lanka due to security concerns and escalating tensions with India.
