Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended US President Donald Trump for his role in averting a potential conflict between India and Pakistan. Despite his efforts, Sharif did not secure a meeting with Trump during his visit to Washington. He also missed a planned meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department.
During a multilateral gathering, Sharif lauded Trump’s intervention, stating that it potentially saved millions of lives and hailed him as a “man of peace.” He further expressed gratitude, emphasizing Trump’s positive impact on South Asia’s stability.
Sharif also endorsed Trump’s Gaza peace initiative, advocating for Palestinian self-determination. He praised Trump’s diplomatic efforts, acknowledging their significance in global peace efforts. However, despite Sharif’s public support, no direct meeting occurred between him and Trump during the event.
Trump, in an earlier address, recounted his involvement in diffusing tensions between India and Pakistan. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting the risks posed by the conflict between two nuclear-armed nations. Trump’s intervention led to a swift resolution, with both sides agreeing to de-escalate the situation.
