At least seven individuals lost their lives, and 75 others sustained injuries due to Pakistani strikes in Afghanistan’s Kunar province, hitting Asadabad and Sarkano district. The death toll is rising as more victims are identified. In Asadabad, the government hospital officials reported treating numerous injured individuals, including women and children, while emergency teams are actively responding to the crisis.
Local reports indicated that the strikes on Monday targeted various locations, including residential areas and Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan University. The attacks caused damage and panic among students and staff as mortar rounds struck the campus. Witnesses observed heavy explosions and thick black smoke in the affected region, with buildings, particularly within the university compound and nearby neighborhoods, suffering significant damage.
Authorities confirmed that at least 30 students and staff members were wounded in the university strike. The intensity of the attacks prompted many residents to flee their homes out of fear of potential drone, aircraft, and rocket threats. Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have heightened in recent months, leading to exchanges of fire and concerns about civilian casualties.
Pakistan’s missile strike on Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan University in Kunar province drew strong condemnation from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Higher Education.
