Pakistan women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation and youthful energy for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Led by Fatima Sana, the team aims to play fearless cricket and secure a top-four finish. The tournament, scheduled from June 12 to July 5 in England, will witness 12 teams competing in 33 matches across seven venues.
“We have worked hard in recent months, including matches against Zimbabwe, Ireland, and the West Indies. This young and energetic group is ready for the World Cup challenge,” stated Wahab in a PCB statement. Fatima, a seam-bowling all-rounder, will captain Pakistan for the second consecutive T20 World Cup, entering the event in excellent form after a record-breaking performance against Zimbabwe.
Pakistan’s preparations included T20Is in South Africa, a series against Zimbabwe, training camps, and a tri-series in Ireland. Despite a loss in warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland, Wahab remains optimistic about the team’s potential. The squad, comprising a mix of youth and experience, aims for a strong start against tough opponents like India, South Africa, Australia, and the Netherlands in the group stage.
Adapting to the English conditions, Wahab highlighted the team’s readiness after exposure to similar conditions in Ireland and Derby. Emphasizing the importance of belief and hard work, he expressed the team’s determination to deliver a commendable performance in the prestigious tournament. Pakistan’s journey in the Women’s T20 World Cup begins with a match against India, followed by encounters with South Africa, Bangladesh, Australia, and the Netherlands.
