Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced that the monsoon death toll in the country has climbed to 97, with 11 additional fatalities and 25 injuries due to rain-related incidents. The eastern Punjab province was severely affected, reporting seven deaths and 20 injuries during the recent period. Southern Sindh witnessed two deaths and two injuries, while northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province and northern Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB) region each recorded one fatality, with KP also reporting three injuries.
Since the start of the monsoon season on June 26, a total of 297 people have been injured, as per Xinhua news agency. The recent heavy rains have also caused damage to 22 houses and claimed the lives of eight livestock, adding up to 447 houses damaged and 269 livestock lost nationwide this season. The NDMA has advised residents, especially those in vulnerable areas, to stay alert and adhere to official safety guidelines as monsoon rains persist in various parts of the country.
Local media reported that seven individuals, including two children, lost their lives and 20 others were injured in rain-related incidents in Punjab province within the past 24 hours. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated that houses were destroyed, and livestock perished due to the intense rainfall. Fatalities were primarily caused by drowning and structural collapses, while injuries resulted from roof collapses and electrocution, as reported by Dawn.
In Lahore’s Garhi Shahu Railway Colony, Bobby Plaza, Saggian Pind, and Kahna, three people, including a man, a woman, and a child, lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries in separate roof-collapse incidents. Additionally, in Kasur district, a man and a child died, and a woman and two children were injured following a house roof collapse. Tragic incidents also occurred in Faisalabad and Gujranwala, where a woman perished due to a collapsed house roof, and a child drowned in rainwater in Pathan Colony.
