President Jose Raul Mulino of Panama has confirmed the completion of the first flight carrying 18 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Venezuela. The aid includes essential supplies like food, water, medical items, and emergency supplies for affected families. Additionally, Panama is preparing to dispatch a specialized search and rescue team to assist after the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.
The rescue team, led by the national civil protection system director Omar Smith, consists of around 60 specialized personnel and four trained dogs for search operations. Equipped with drones and thermal-capable gear, the team aims to locate individuals and handle various emergency scenarios. The operation is initially set for seven days, with a possibility of extension based on the situation in Venezuela.
Various countries, including India, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia, have started providing technical and humanitarian aid to Venezuela post the devastating earthquakes. The assistance includes rescue teams and specialized equipment to aid in the recovery efforts. The earthquakes on Wednesday resulted in significant casualties and infrastructure damage along Venezuela’s central coast.
