Paris Paralympics 2024 champion Harvinder Singh and bronze medallist Sheetal are showcasing their skills at the ongoing Para National Archery Championship 2026 at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in New Delhi. The championship, organized by the Punjab Archery Association, has attracted over 190 para-archers from 20 states, including renowned athletes like Padma Shri awardee Harvinder and Arjuna Award winner Rakesh Kumar.
The competition, scheduled from January 30 to February 2, not only features established players but also includes a special classification drive for emerging para-archers. This initiative aims to provide new talents with a platform to excel at national and international levels. Notably, this year’s championship marks the debut of blind archery at the National Championship level, a significant development for the para archery community.
National para archery coach Abhilasha Chaudhary emphasized the importance of the event, stating that it serves as a crucial platform for para archers nationwide. The championship, being held in Patiala for the second time, has garnered praise for its role in nurturing both experienced international players and aspiring young talents. Harvinder Singh, a Padma Shri awardee and Paralympic champion, highlighted the growing interest in the sport, noting the increased participation compared to previous years.
Paralympic bronze medallist Sheetal, who trains at Punjabi University in Patiala, expressed her delight at witnessing a surge in young athletes’ involvement in the National Championship. She commended the favorable weather and atmosphere at NIS Patiala, underscoring her pride in being part of this prestigious event.
