Paralympic champion Sumit Antil stole the spotlight at the 8th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championship 2026 in Bengaluru. Representing Haryana, Sumit clinched the gold in the Men’s Javelin Throw F64 event with a massive throw of 74.82m. The championship witnessed India’s strong performance on the final day at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium.
Another highlight was the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 category, where Haryana’s Rinku secured gold with a throw of 61.70m. Uttar Pradesh’s Ajeet Singh and Ravi Kumar from the same state claimed silver and bronze, respectively. In the Men’s Javelin Throw F57 event, Haryana’s Parveen Kumar emerged victorious with a throw of 45.02m.
The Men’s High Jump T47 event saw Paralympic medallist Nishad Kumar from Himachal Pradesh clinching the gold by clearing 2.05m. Andhra Pradesh’s Lalitha Killaka and Uttar Pradesh’s Preeti Pal also showcased their talent by winning gold in their respective track events.
The championship concluded with Gujarat’s Bhavanaben Ajab Chaudhary securing gold in the Women’s Javelin Throw F46. The event highlighted the exceptional performances of Indian para athletes, setting the stage for future international competitions and underlining the country’s strong presence in para athletics.
