Watching elite athletes compete live can be a significant motivator for the next generation, according to Paralympic champion Sumit Antil. After winning gold at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in New Delhi, Sumit highlighted how such experiences help young athletes set higher goals for themselves. He stressed the value of hosting international competitions in India, stating that these events serve as a crucial source of inspiration for emerging athletes.
Sumit expressed that junior athletes draw inspiration from top competitors performing up close. He mentioned that witnessing live elite competitions helps younger athletes establish clear targets for themselves. Sumit also noted that the inspiration flows both ways, with senior athletes learning from the dedication of younger competitors.
The Paralympic champion emphasized the impact of support from the stands, revealing that the cheers during his competition mainly came from his team members. Sumit encouraged people to support athletes whenever possible, underscoring how crowd energy can significantly influence performance. He also reflected on the growth of para sports in India since he began competing in 2017, expressing optimism about increased visibility in the future.
Sumit shared his ambition to achieve a historic milestone by aiming for the 75m mark in javelin throw, a feat never accomplished by a para athlete.
