The Paralympic Committee of India organized a grand send-off ceremony for the 28-member Indian para contingent selected to represent the country at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. These para athletes are part of the Indian Olympic Association contingent, which includes both able-bodied and para athletes.
Dr. Payal Kanodia, the newly appointed Chairperson of the Paralympic Committee of India, led the event. She emphasized PCI’s dedication to enhancing India’s para sports ecosystem and providing more opportunities for para athletes to shine globally. The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Gaurav Gautam, Sports Minister of Haryana, and Devendra Jhajharia, President of the Paralympic Committee of India.
The 28-member para contingent will compete in five disciplines at the Commonwealth Games: para athletics (11 athletes), para powerlifting (7), para swimming (5), para track cycling (1), and women’s wheelchair basketball (3×3) (4). With a focus on surpassing India’s previous medal tally, the contingent aims to make a significant impact at the games.
