Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has highlighted worries about India’s fielding performance despite their successful run in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Patel emphasized the need for India to address their fielding issues urgently before the upcoming semifinal against England at the Wankhede Stadium.
India has struggled with their catching during the tournament, having dropped 13 catches so far. Their catching efficiency has dropped to a tournament-low of 72.7%. In contrast, Pakistan, known for fielding criticism, boasts a higher success rate of 83.3%.
Speaking to Jio Hotstar, Patel expressed his concerns, stating that India’s fielding woes have been persistent for about a year and a half. He emphasized the importance of rectifying the catching lapses, a crucial aspect that India must improve on.
After securing a spot in the semifinals with a hard-fought victory against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens, Patel praised the team’s performance. He described the win as significant and a confidence booster for India, particularly highlighting Sanju Samson’s exceptional innings in the challenging chase.
Praising pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Patel lauded his ability to take crucial wickets and build pressure on opponents. He commended Bumrah’s consistent performance and his knack for delivering breakthroughs when needed the most.
Looking ahead to the semifinal clash against England, Patel acknowledged the challenge posed by England’s strong batting lineup. He emphasized the need for India to be at their best to counter England’s dangerous batters and all-round team.
