Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers increased by 25.4% year-on-year to 437,312 units in April. Two-wheeler sales also saw a rise, reaching 1,872,691 units, marking a 28.4% increase from the previous year. Three-wheeler dispatches surged by 32.8% to 65,668 units in the same month.
The total production of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and Quadricycle in April amounted to 2,922,427 units. Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, highlighted the strong growth in passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers in April 2026. Passenger vehicles achieved their highest-ever sales of 437,000 units, marking a 25.4% growth compared to April 2025.
Menon also noted that three-wheelers achieved their highest-ever sales of 66,000 units, showing a growth of 32.8% from the previous year. Additionally, two-wheeler sales reached 1.87 million units in April 2026, reflecting a 28.4% increase year-on-year, despite concerns about high commodity prices.
In March, domestic passenger vehicle dispatches rose by 16% year-on-year to 442,460 units, driven by increased demand and inventory build-up at dealerships. While the outlook for the passenger vehicle segment remains positive, growth is expected to moderate in the future. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations reported a strong start to FY27, with record retail sales of 2,611,317 units in April, a 12.94% growth.
Two-wheeler retail sales continued their strong performance, reaching 1,916,258 units in April, the highest ever for this category. Urban markets grew by 14.07% year-on-year, while rural markets saw a 12.30% growth, indicating broad-based demand.
