Obtaining a passport has become more expensive starting Wednesday as the Ministry of External Affairs has introduced a new fee structure for passport-related services. The revised charges affect various services like fresh applications, renewals, Tatkaal services, and replacements for lost or damaged passports, among others. These fee adjustments are applicable to applications submitted in India and at Indian missions and consulates abroad.
For adults, the fee for a standard 36-page passport application or renewal has been raised from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500. Similarly, the cost for a 60-page adult passport under the normal category has increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500.
Under the Tatkaal scheme, the fee for a 36-page adult passport has been raised from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000, while for a 60-page passport, the fee has gone up from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000. These new charges are effective from July 1, 2026, for applications submitted both in India and abroad.
Applicants requiring a replacement passport due to loss or damage will now have to pay higher fees. The cost for a 36-page replacement passport for adults has increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 3,000, and for a 60-page replacement, it has risen to Rs 6,000 from Rs 3,500.
Children below 18 years will also experience increased passport fees. For a 36-page fresh or reissue passport for minors, the fee has been raised from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,750. In the Tatkaal category for minors, the fee has been hiked from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,250.
Moreover, charges for miscellaneous passport services, including Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) and other related certificates, have been raised from Rs 500 to Rs 750. The revised fee structure also covers services like surrender certificates and other passport-linked documentation.
Indian citizens applying for passport services abroad will follow a separate fee structure. For instance, the fee for a fresh 36-page passport application abroad under the normal category is set at $125, while in the Tatkaal category, it will be $250. This revised overseas fee structure applies to those seeking passport services through Indian missions and consulates abroad.
A 10% discount on fresh passport applications will continue for children under eight years and senior citizens above 60 years, excluding passport reissue applications.
