The Patna High Court has issued an interim order to prevent media organizations from conducting a media trial in the case involving Bihar contractor Rishu Shree, linked to an alleged tender scam investigated by the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU). Justice Anshul emphasized the accused’s right to a fair trial and warned against sensational reporting that could influence judicial proceedings. The court directed various media platforms not to portray the petitioner as guilty while the case is ongoing.
The High Court stressed the importance of fair trial rights for every accused individual and prohibited media from using terms like mastermind or scamster that could suggest guilt before court proceedings are concluded. It allowed factual and impartial reporting but cautioned against trials based on unverified material or alleged confessions. The court highlighted that irresponsible reporting could impact the judicial process and interfere with justice administration.
The case gained attention after the SVU filed an FIR related to irregularities involving Rishu Shree, leading to the suspension of two IAS officers by the Bihar government. Recent searches conducted by the SVU at multiple locations are part of the ongoing investigation. The Enforcement Directorate has also initiated proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, seizing cash and documents during searches in Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Gujarat. Financial records and digital evidence are being examined as the investigation progresses.
