In a significant development, the Patna Police captured Dilip Kumar, the criminal connected to the recent jewelry theft in the city, following an encounter on Wednesday. Dilip sustained bullet wounds during the police confrontation and is currently receiving medical care at the hospital. The encounter ensued when Dilip allegedly fired at the police officers.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma stated that Dilip was taken into custody based on suspicion and later admitted to his role in the daylight robbery at Shri Lakshmi Alankar Jewelers in Patna on April 19. Dilip disclosed that the weapons used in the crime were hidden, leading the police to recover them at his direction.
While at the recovery site, Dilip reportedly tried to escape and fired at the police team, prompting the officers to defend themselves by returning fire. Dilip was wounded in the leg by a bullet and was promptly transported to Patna AIIMS for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that Dilip was the main suspect among the four criminals involved in the robbery, with efforts ongoing to locate and arrest the other suspects.
The stolen gold was taken by the accused who fled on a stolen motorcycle, as reported by the original owner who had filed a theft report. Investigators reviewed various CCTV footage from different parts of the city, including major routes like JP Setu, Gandhi Setu, and Digha–AIIMS elevated road. A joint operation by the Bihar Police STF and Dial-100 teams is in progress, with intensified raids aimed at apprehending the remaining suspects.
