After the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant, Patna Police took into custody the hostel owner on Thursday. The post-mortem report, received on January 14, mentioned the potential of sexual assault, raising concerns about the circumstances of her demise. The incident occurred at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna on January 9, leading to tension and protests in the area.
Following the discovery of the unconscious student at the hostel, she was first taken to a private hospital and later transferred to Medanta Hospital due to her critical condition. Despite medical efforts, the student passed away from her injuries. Subsequently, local residents and students protested, urging for a thorough investigation and strict measures in response to the tragic event.
The public outcry following the mysterious death on January 9 led to demonstrations, with a significant student protest at Kargil Chowk on Tuesday. In response, the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. The escalating public pressure prompted swift action from the authorities, resulting in the arrest of the hostel owner, Manish Kumar Ranjan, who has been remanded to judicial custody.
A case (Case No. 14/26) has been filed at the Chitraguptnagar police station based on the victim’s father’s statement. Police are pursuing further legal actions based on evidence from the crime scene and forensic analysis. Investigators are also interviewing other female students and staff at the hostel to piece together the sequence of events and uncover the truth behind the incident.
