In a significant move against narcotics smuggling, Patna Police uncovered a drug trafficking operation camouflaged within a tea shop in Bihar’s Maner police station area. Acting on a tip-off, authorities raided the tea shop owner’s residence and seized a substantial amount of drugs, cash, weapons, and valuables. Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Kartikeya S. Sharma, revealed that the accused had been conducting an illicit drug business under the facade of a tea shop, involving the entire family.
The raid yielded 545 grams of smack, 558 grams of charas, a country-made pistol, three cartridges, a pistol magazine, and Rs 12.16 lakh in cash. Additionally, authorities confiscated liquor, 413 grams of silver, 24 grams of gold jewelry, as well as several cars and motorcycles. The accused had amassed considerable illegal wealth and was using the proceeds from drug trafficking to build a new house, as stated by the SSP during a press conference.
The arrested individuals, all belonging to the same family, were engaged in the drug trade for an extended period. Their assets will be seized in accordance with the law. The drug supply network had connections reaching Nepal, indicating an inter-state and international operation. Women from the household were actively participating in packaging and distributing the narcotics and are currently under interrogation.
Six male family members have been apprehended, including individuals named Shivam and Piyush. Ongoing raids aim to capture other network members and suppliers in various states. Authorities have identified additional traffickers associated with this network and plan to make further arrests soon. The crackdown has instilled fear among drug peddlers in the region. Patna Police are resolute in dismantling the entire narcotics network and have vowed to take stringent action against all involved, irrespective of their roles in the operation.
