From Karnataka, known for producing hockey legends like MP Ganesh and SV Sunil, emerges a new talent, PB Sunil, aiming to carry forward the state’s hockey legacy. Sunil’s standout performance in the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup, where his team secured a bronze, signals a resurgence in Karnataka’s hockey prowess. Hailing from Anavatti village, Sunil’s journey from a DYES Sports hostel trainee to the Vedanta Kalinga Lancers squad reflects his dedication and potential.

Raised by agricultural laborer parents, Sunil’s success in hockey not only fulfills his dreams but also brings hope to his family. With a spot in the Kalinga Lancers team, Sunil is focused on excelling in the Hockey India League, aiming to leverage the experience gained from the Junior World Cup. Acknowledging Karnataka’s rich hockey heritage, Sunil feels inspired by the state’s past achievers and is determined to carry on their legacy.

Sunil eagerly anticipates playing alongside renowned players like Arthur Van Doren and Alexander Hendrickx, aiming to enhance his defensive skills under their mentorship. His aspirations extend beyond the field, seeking to learn from the Belgian stalwarts’ professional conduct and preparation strategies. Motivated by the prospect of improving his family’s financial situation through hockey success, Sunil is optimistic about the opportunities the sport can offer.
