Prasanna Bendre, a prominent Pencak Silat athlete from Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, faced a challenge when he had to switch weight categories just 20 days before the Khelo India Beach Games 2026. Despite this hurdle, Bendre managed to secure a gold medal at the event, showcasing his dominance in the sport.
Due to a last-minute alteration in weight categories, Bendre had to move up to a higher weight class, competing in the 50-55 kg category instead of his usual 40-45 kg. This meant he had to gain weight quickly to face stronger opponents. However, the determined 23-year-old embraced the situation and went on to claim his second consecutive gold medal in the Tanding event.
Before the competition, Bendre had to adjust his diet and training regimen to put on weight rapidly. With the support of his coaches and his dedication, he successfully reached the required weight of around 50-51 kgs. Despite the challenges, Bendre’s perseverance and skill led him to victory, defeating his opponent in the final at Ghoghla Beach in Diu.
Prasanna Bendre expressed gratitude to his coaches, Alexander and Philia Thomas, for their guidance and encouragement throughout the competition. His journey in Pencak Silat began with a fortuitous meeting with his coaches during his school days, setting the foundation for his successful career in the sport.
