The People’s Armwrestling Federation of India (PAFI) has gained official affiliation from the Paralympic Committee of India, marking a significant advancement for para-armwrestling in the country. This affiliation paves the way for structured competitions, athlete development, and enhanced integration into the global Paralympic framework. Para-armwrestling, already making strides internationally, was featured in the recent Asian Youth Para Games 2025 in Dubai and is among the select sports where Para athletes compete alongside able-bodied athletes.
The affiliation with the Paralympic Committee of India is a crucial step towards the inclusion of Para-Armwrestling in major events like the Asian Para Games and the Asian Games. This move reinforces the commitment to elevate Para-Armwrestling to the Paralympic Games, offering Indian athletes a platform to showcase their talents on a global scale. Devendra Jhajharia, President of the Paralympic Committee of India, commended PAFI for its efforts in promoting armwrestling for para athletes and ensuring their equal treatment and competitive opportunities.
In India, both PAFI and Pro Panja League have been actively supporting para athletes through dedicated initiatives like special categories in competitions and equal pay structures. The Pro Panja League’s inclusive approach, featuring male, female, and para athletes competing on equal footing, has contributed significantly to the growth of Para-Armwrestling. Together, PAFI and the Pro Panja League have established a sustainable ecosystem for Para-Armwrestlers, offering structured tournaments and professional opportunities that align with international standards.
Preeti Jhangiani, President of PAFI and Vice President of the Asian Armwrestling Federation, expressed gratitude for the official recognition from the Paralympic Committee of India, underscoring the organization’s commitment to transparent governance and athlete welfare. This milestone not only acknowledges PAFI’s dedication but also reinforces its mission to provide fair opportunities and a clear pathway for Indian armwrestlers to excel at national and international levels.
