Periasamy Kumaran, currently serving as Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has been named as India’s upcoming High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. A member of the 1992 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Kumaran is set to assume his new role soon.
Replacing Vikram Doraiswami, who is slated to become India’s Ambassador to China, Kumaran has held the position of Secretary (East) in the MEA since 2025. With a career spanning various diplomatic roles, Kumaran has served in different capacities across the globe, including stints in countries like Egypt, Libya, Belgium, Pakistan, and the United States.
Having previously served as India’s Ambassador to Qatar and High Commissioner to Singapore, Kumaran brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Fluent in languages such as English, Tamil, Hindi, and Arabic, he is expected to bring his diverse expertise to further strengthen India-UK relations.
